Bodo/Glimt Stun Inter Milan in Champions League Opener
In a surprise result, Norwegian club Bodo/Glimt defeated Italian giants Inter Milan 3-1 in the first leg of their Champions League playoff on Wednesday. The match took place at Aspmyra Stadion, with an attendance of approximately 8,000 spectators.
Inter Milan, seeking a seventh consecutive win in all competitions, fell behind in the 20th minute when midfielder Sondre Brunstad Fet scored with a neat finish. Pio Esposito equalized for Inter 10 minutes later with an opportunistic goal.
Bodo/Glimt regained the lead with two goals in quick succession in the second half. The first was scored by Jens Petter Hauge after Kasper Hogh rolled the ball to him, and the second came when Hogh scored himself after being set up by Ole Didrik Blomberg.
The return leg will take place next Tuesday. Meanwhile, Club Brugge secured a 3-3 draw with Atletico Madrid in their Champions League playoff first leg, with Christos Tzolis scoring an angled shot in the 89th minute to level the tie after initially being ruled out for offside.
In other matches, Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick scored twice in three minutes to lead his team to a 2-0 victory over Olympiacos. Newcastle United thrashed Qarabag 6-1 away in their Champions League playoff first leg, with Anthony Gordon scoring four times in the first half.
