Pakistan Cricket Board Seeks Resolution with ICC Over T20 World Cup Fixture
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is engaged in talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board to resolve the dispute surrounding the T20 World Cup 2026 fixture against India on February 15. The match, scheduled to take place in Colombo, was initially thrown into doubt after Pakistan’s government ordered the team not to participate.
According to a source close to the developments, the ICC reached out to the PCB following a formal communication from the cricket world body. The ICC is seeking a resolution through dialogue rather than confrontation. The 20-team tournament has been overshadowed by an escalating political atmosphere, with Bangladesh being replaced by Scotland due to security concerns.
Pakistan will face significant consequences if they forfeit the match, including losing two points and suffering a substantial impact on their net run rate. India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav has confirmed that his team will travel to Colombo for the clash. The fixture marks one of the most lucrative matches in cricket, with substantial revenue generated from broadcasting, sponsoring, and advertising.
The Pakistan-India rivalry is one of the most prominent in cricket, with the two teams not having played bilateral cricket in over a decade. They meet only in global or regional tournaments. The ICC’s efforts to resolve the dispute aim to restore normalcy to the tournament schedule.
