Iran Confirms Readiness for 2026 FIFA World Cup Participation
The Iranian government has confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made for the country’s national football team to participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
According to a statement released by Fatemeh Mohajerani, government spokesperson for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the ministry has ensured that all necessary arrangements are in place for the team’s effective participation in the tournament. The preparations were made under the directive of the sport minister, with a focus on providing the required facilities for a successful performance.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino had previously stated that Iran is expected to participate in the upcoming World Cup, despite concerns over the ongoing conflict between the US and Israel. Infantino noted that sports should be outside of politics, but also acknowledged the Iranian team’s qualification and expressed willingness to compete.
The Iranian team is scheduled to play its three Group G matches in the United States, with their base for the tournament located in Tucson, Arizona. The team had initially requested to move their matches from the US to Mexico due to concerns over safety, but FIFA rejected this request.
A fragile truce came into effect on April 8, following several weeks of air strikes and reprisals against Israel and other countries in the region. Diplomatic efforts continue, with the US extending a two-week ceasefire. The World Cup is set to begin on June 11, featuring 48 teams for the first time.
Iran’s participation in the tournament has been subject to uncertainty due to the ongoing conflict. However, the government has confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made for the team’s participation.
