Iran Launches Missile Attack on Israel in Response to Assassinations

Two people have been killed in an attack on central Israel’s Ramat Gan area, with significant property damage reported at a nearby Tel Aviv train station. The incident occurred overnight on Tuesday and involved multiple-warhead missiles that reportedly evaded defense systems.

According to Iranian authorities, the attack was carried out as “revenge” for the assassination of Dr. Ali Larijani, Iran’s security chief, who was killed in an Israeli air strike earlier this week. Iran has also targeted Gholamreza Soleimani, head of the Basij paramilitary force, who was killed alongside Larijani.

Iranian officials have stated that they will hold funerals for both men on Wednesday. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) released a statement claiming responsibility for the attack and expressing their intention to exact revenge for the deaths of Larijani and Soleimani.

In addition to the attack in Ramat Gan, Iran launched another wave of missile strikes on central Israel on Wednesday morning. Iranian authorities have also executed a man accused of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that a projectile hit the premises of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant on Tuesday, but there was no damage or injuries reported. Israeli officials have confirmed that Larijani and Soleimani were targeted in separate air strikes earlier this week.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Iran’s system of governance is resilient and capable of withstanding losses such as the deaths of key leaders. Al Jazeera reports from Tehran indicate that the sheer number of high-profile killings is causing fear and uncertainty among Iranian officials and citizens alike.
