Iran Holds Mass Funeral for Victims of US-Israeli Attack on School
A mass funeral was held in southern Iran on Saturday for 165 schoolgirls and staff who were killed in an attack on a girls’ school in the city of Minab. The incident occurred on the first day of joint US and Israeli military operations against Iranian targets.
According to reports, the attack resulted in the deaths of 165 civilians, making it the deadliest incident in the ongoing campaign against Iran so far. The Israeli military has stated that it was not aware of any involvement in the attack.
The Iranian government has described the strike as a “United States-Israeli attack” on the school. UNESCO and Nobel Peace Prize-winning education activist Malala Yousafzai have condemned the incident, calling for an end to violence against civilians.
International humanitarian law defines deliberately attacking civilian structures, such as schools or hospitals, as a war crime. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has accused the US and Israel of “indiscriminately striking residential areas” without distinction between military and civilian targets.
The incident marks one of the first major incidents in the joint US-Israeli operation against Iran, which began on Saturday.
