Iran poses significant challenge to Israeli plans for expanded territory

US President Donald Trump Receives Urgent Call from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Ahead of Iran Deadline

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a phone call to US President Donald Trump on the eve of the deadline set by the US for Iran. The call was reportedly urgent and aimed at cautioning the president against pursuing a ceasefire with Tehran.

Following the announcement of a temporary truce, Netanyahu clarified that Israel would continue its military operations in Lebanon. This move has sparked debate about Netanyahu’s intentions, with some speculating that he is seeking to prolong the war for political gain.

However, Netanyahu’s stance on the issue is not unique. Many within the Israeli government and security establishment believe that a ceasefire with Iran would hinder their long-term goals. These goals include the expansion of Israel’s territorial control in the Middle East and the establishment of military dominance over large swaths of the region.

The concept of “Greater Israel” has become a central aspect of Zionist strategy, aiming to secure Israel’s position as a dominant power in the region. This vision encompasses not only the occupation of more land but also the expansion of spheres of influence.

Israel has been pursuing territorial expansion through the colonization of Palestinian territory since 1967. The country is now seeking to expand north, east, and south, with plans that date back to the 1919 World Zionist Organization proposals. These plans include parts of southern Lebanon and Syria, the left bank of the Jordan River, and parts of Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

Israel has occupied and colonized Syria’s Golan Heights for nearly 60 years and has sought to expand its control over Syrian land in recent years. The country is also interested in expanding its presence in southern Lebanon, where it currently occupies territory and has been obliterating villages to prevent the return of their inhabitants.

The East Bank of the Jordan River is another key area of interest for Israel, as it would provide access to arable land and strategic depth against potential eastern threats. Control over this region would also place key regional transit routes under Israeli influence.

In summary, Netanyahu’s call to Trump was aimed at cautioning against a ceasefire with Iran, which would hinder Israel’s long-term goals of territorial expansion and military dominance in the Middle East.
