Iran reports 1,255 civilian deaths from recent US-Israeli strikes

Iran Reports High Casualties from US-Israeli Attacks

At least 1,255 people have been killed and over 12,000 wounded in Iran since February 28, according to Deputy Health Minister Ali Jafarian. Speaking to Al Jazeera on Monday, Jafarian confirmed that the majority of victims were civilians, with ages ranging from eight months to 88.

Twenty-nine clinical facilities have been damaged, with 10 forced to shut down due to the attacks. Additionally, 52 health centers, 18 emergency services locations, and 15 ambulances have also been affected. Jafarian warned that the population faces potential health risks due to the damage caused by Israeli air strikes on Iran’s oil facilities.

The attacks, which began on February 28, have resulted in large fires at several locations, including the Aghdasieh oil warehouse, Tehran refinery, and Shahran oil depot. Israel stated that it targeted “a number of fuel storage facilities in Tehran” used for “military infrastructure”. Jafarian emphasized that the attacks may cause respiratory problems and advised residents to stay indoors with windows shut.

Jafarian also noted that acid rain from the attacks could have a lasting environmental impact. He reported that over 200 cities have been hit across Iran since the start of the attacks, with targets identified as mostly civilian. The US and Israel continued their bombardment on Monday, with explosions reported in Qom and Tehran.
