US-Israeli Forces Launch Attack on Iran’s Supreme Leader; IRGC Vows Retaliation
Thousands of mourners gathered in Tehran’s Enghelab Square on Sunday to pay their respects to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran since 1989. The gathering took place as US President Donald Trump announced the killing of Khamenei, describing him as “one of the most evil people in history”. Iranian state television later confirmed Khamenei’s death.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) released a statement vowing “severe, decisive” punishment for those responsible for Khamenei’s death. The IRGC also pledged to launch an operation against Israel and US bases in the region, which have already been targeted by Iranian strikes. Trump warned that any retaliation would result in significant consequences.
The attack on Khamenei was part of a larger military operation involving the US and Israel. The two countries have been involved in a series of strikes in the region, with explosions reported in Doha, Dubai, and Manama on Sunday. Warning sirens were also sounded in central Israel, where the Israeli military is responding to Iranian missile fire.
The IRGC has vowed to retaliate against Israel and US targets, while Trump has threatened that any response would be severe. The situation remains fluid, with ongoing reports of violence and retaliation in the region.
