Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has confirmed that messages have been exchanged with the United States, but denied any negotiations are underway. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Araghchi stated that he receives direct messages from US special envoy Steve Witkoff, which does not imply a negotiation. “All messages are conveyed through the Foreign Ministry or received by it,” he said.
Araghchi clarified that Tehran has not made a decision on negotiating with Washington due to reservations about the US. He also stated that Iran has not responded to the 15-point proposal sent by the US, nor has it submitted any proposals or conditions. The foreign minister reiterated that Iran’s position is clear: an end to all attacks in the region.
According to Araghchi, messages are conveyed through the Foreign Ministry and security agencies, indicating a formal communication channel with the US. This information was previously reported, but the direct contact with Witkoff marks a significant update. Last week, a senior diplomatic source confirmed that Iran had received a 15-point plan from the US aimed at ending the war in the region. The proposal included various proposals, including limiting Iran’s nuclear capabilities and missile stockpile.
Araghchi’s comments provide insight into the current state of communication between Iran and the US. The foreign minister’s statement emphasizes the need for clarity on Iran’s position regarding negotiations with Washington.
