Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani has stated that Israel is attempting to disrupt negotiations between Iran and the US over Tehran’s nuclear program. During a visit to Qatar on Wednesday, Larijani claimed that Israel was fabricating pretexts to undermine talks with Washington at a delicate stage.
Larijani emphasized that Iran’s negotiations are exclusively with the US, but stated that Israel has inserted itself into the process in an attempt to destabilize the region. He attributed Israel’s strategy to extending beyond its alleged concerns about Iran, citing recent attacks on Qatar and Saudi Arabia as evidence.
Iran and the US held a round of indirect negotiations in Muscat, Oman, on Friday, seeking to negotiate a resolution to the nuclear dispute. Larijani stated that Tehran had not yet received a specific proposal from Washington in the negotiations, which consisted mainly of an exchange of messages.
Larijani reiterated that the negotiations would focus solely on Iran’s nuclear program, excluding issues such as its missile program and uranium enrichment levels. He emphasized that these topics are separate from the nuclear issue and cannot be part of the negotiations.
In a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington on Wednesday, Netanyahu presented Trump with “principles” for negotiating with Iran. However, Larijani stated that Tehran had not yet received a specific proposal from Washington.
Larijani also warned that if the US were to attack Iran, Tehran would respond by attacking US military bases in the region. He emphasized the need for regional leaders to be aware of this situation and called on them to take necessary precautions.
The timing of a second round of talks between Iran and the US is currently under discussion.
