Irans Foreign Minister Leaves Pakistan for Talks in Russia

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has departed Islamabad for Moscow, where he will engage in discussions with senior Russian officials. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Araghchi left Pakistan on Sunday, following a visit to Oman’s capital city Muscat earlier this week.
Araghchi’s trip to Russia comes as mediators continue to explore the possibility of renewed talks between Iran and the United States. However, there is currently no indication that direct negotiations will resume. Instead, indirect efforts are ongoing, with Iran reportedly transmitting written messages to the Americans via mediator Pakistan regarding certain issues, including nuclear concerns and the Strait of Hormuz.
The US and Iran have been engaged in a ceasefire since April 7, which has largely halted hostilities between the two countries. However, a permanent settlement remains elusive, and the economic impact of the conflict continues to be felt globally. The US has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports, while Iran has blocked the Strait of Hormuz, affecting oil, natural gas, and fertilizer exports.
US President Donald Trump had previously announced plans for envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to visit Islamabad, but later cancelled the trip, stating that there was no point in discussing “nothing”. Trump also told Fox News that he would only engage in talks if Iran’s leaders were willing to meet with him. Araghchi met with Pakistani officials on Saturday before traveling to Muscat and returning to Islamabad on Sunday. He then departed for Russia, where he will speak with senior Russian officials.
