Iranian Parliament Speaker Meets with Lebanese Counterpart to Discuss Ceasefire
In a phone conversation, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf told his Lebanese counterpart Nabih Berri that establishing a permanent ceasefire in all conflict zones is a priority for Tehran. According to a statement posted on Telegram, Ghalibaf stated that Iran has been striving to compel its enemies to agree to such a ceasefire.
Ghalibaf led the Iranian delegation at the first US-Iran meeting in Pakistan last week, which concluded without an agreement. The Iranian speaker emphasized that a ceasefire in Lebanon is equally important as one in Iran, according to Berri’s statement. Ghalibaf also expressed solidarity with the Lebanese people, stating that they are considered “among us” by Iranians.
Berri detailed recent Israeli attacks on Lebanon, citing 1.2 million displaced people. He accused Israel of committing crimes and seeking to displace Lebanese citizens, adding that any communication with the Zionist regime is not in the interests of the Lebanese people.
The conflict between Iran and the US began on March 2, following rocket fire from Tehran-aligned Hezbollah at Israel. Since then, Israeli forces have killed over 2,000 people in Lebanon. A meeting between Israeli and Lebanese leaders has been announced for Thursday, with US President Donald Trump confirming the talks.
