Israel Orders Forced Evacuation of Southern Lebanon Region

Israel has issued new evacuation notices for areas in southern Lebanon, ordering residents of seven towns beyond its declared “buffer zone” to leave. The Israeli military claims that Hezbollah is violating the ceasefire agreement brokered by the US and has vowed to take action against the group.

Hezbollah has rejected allegations that it is undermining the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire, stating that its continued attacks are a legitimate response to Israeli violations of the agreement. According to Hezbollah, there have been over 500 incidents of Israeli aggression since the ceasefire began on April 16.

The US-mediated ceasefire has brought a significant reduction in hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, but both sides continue to fire at each other. The Israeli military has stated that it will respond to any planned or ongoing attacks by Hezbollah.

Hezbollah claims to have attacked Israeli troops inside Lebanon and a rescue force attempting to evacuate them, targeting an Israeli artillery position in the town of Biyyada with drones. It also reported drone attacks on a gathering of Israeli soldiers in the town of Taybeh, resulting in casualties among Israeli forces.

The Israeli military has confirmed that a 19-year-old soldier was killed during combat in southern Lebanon and five others were injured. The Israeli government has stated that its primary concern is the security of Israel, its soldiers, and its communities.

Under the terms of the ceasefire agreement, Israel reserves the right to respond to attacks by Hezbollah. The group has been struck by Israeli forces almost daily since the conflict resumed on March 2, resulting in at least 2,509 deaths and 7,755 injuries according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
