Former Israeli Officials Urge Trump to Address West Bank Violence

A group of nearly 600 former Israeli military, diplomatic, and intelligence officials have written a letter to US President Donald Trump, urging him to address the escalating violence in the occupied West Bank. The letter, published on Tuesday, was written by lobby group Commanders for Israel’s Security (CIS), which represents retired Israeli army colonels and generals, as well as equivalent ranks in other corps.

The letter states that unless swift action is taken, the violence in the West Bank could lead to a “calamity” with severe ramifications for regional security. The authors claim that certain government officials are involved in orchestrating the chaos, including protecting settlers from scrutiny of the law.

The group’s mission is to secure Israel’s future as a strong democratic home for the Jewish people. They have called on Trump to raise the issue with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during their meeting in Washington, DC, on Tuesday.

This letter comes after recent violence by Israeli settlers across the occupied West Bank, including a deadly shootout in the town of Tal that resulted in six fatalities. The violence has sparked concerns about the potential consequences for regional security and US interests.

Netanyahu is set to meet Trump on Tuesday, marking his seventh visit to the White House during Trump’s second term. The meeting comes as diplomatic efforts are underway to address the latest escalation between Iran and the US.
