Representatives from France, Israel, Lebanon, the US and UN tracking the ceasefire are set to meet amid ongoing Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon.
According to reports, two people were killed in an Israeli attack on a house in Kfar Dunin, Bint Jbeil, in south Lebanon. The Israeli military stated that it targeted two Hezbollah operatives in the area, accusing one of being involved in “an engineering terrorist in a structure that facilitated the organisation’s reestablishment efforts”.
The committee monitoring the ceasefire, which includes representatives from France, Israel, Lebanon, the United States, and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), is scheduled to meet on Wednesday. The committee has been tracking the ceasefire since November 2024.
Since then, Israeli forces have carried out multiple attacks in Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of over 300 people, including at least 127 civilians. In recent days, Israeli forces have bombarded several parts of Lebanon, killing additional people and ordering the forced evacuation of at least four villages.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that Israel’s continued attacks aim to thwart efforts made locally, regionally, and internationally to stop the ongoing escalation. UN Undersecretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix reported that UNIFIL peacekeepers are carrying out their mandated tasks under increasingly difficult conditions.
The committee’s meeting comes as Lebanon prepares to discuss its plan to disarm Hezbollah, a plan launched under US pressure. The army is expected to complete the disarmament south of the Litani River by the end of 2025.
