Israels Ban on Media Access to Gaza Condemned by Press Association

Foreign Press Association Responds to Supreme Court Ruling on Israel’s Media Lockout

The Foreign Press Association (FPA) has announced its intention to submit a formal response to the Supreme Court of Israel regarding the government’s decision to maintain its ban on unrestricted media access to Gaza. The FPA, which represents journalists from international news organizations working in Israel, Gaza, and the occupied West Bank, expressed disappointment with the court’s ruling.

The FPA had submitted a petition to the court in September 2024 seeking free and unfettered access for foreign journalists to Gaza. However, the Israeli government argued that allowing unrestricted media access could hinder the search for the remains of the last Israeli captive. The court has granted several extensions to the government, with a final deadline set for January 4.

The FPA stated that it would submit a “robust response” to the court in the coming days. The organization’s position is that journalists should be allowed to work independently in Gaza, alongside their Palestinian colleagues. The Israeli government has only allowed a limited number of journalists embedded with its military to work in Gaza on a case-by-case basis.

According to reports, Palestine was the deadliest place to work as a journalist in 2025, with 56 Palestinian media professionals killed over the course of the year. Since the war broke out, nearly 300 journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza. The FPA’s response is expected to address these concerns and seek clarification on the court’s ruling.
