Israels War Aim in Iran Revealed as Regime Change

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called on the Iranian people to take to the streets and overthrow their government in a bid for regime change. In a statement addressed directly to the Iranian people, Netanyahu said they would not be disappointed with the help provided by the US-Israeli air strikes, which have already resulted in over 555 deaths in Iran.

Netanyahu’s comments come as part of Israel’s longstanding policy of seeking regime change from within. The Israeli government has been involved in a joint attack with the United States on Iran, which has killed more than 180 people at a girls’ school in the country’s south.

According to Ahron Bregman, a senior teaching fellow at King’s College London, Netanyahu and his allies do not appear to be invested in ensuring a smooth transition of power in Iran. “I think there’s a public opacity to Israel’s war aims,” said Bregman. “My sense is that Israel has no real interest in smooth regime change.”

Former Israeli government adviser Daniel Levy echoed this sentiment, stating that Israel’s goal is not regime change, but rather the collapse of the Iranian state. “They want Iran to implode, and if the spillover from that takes in Iraq, the Gulf and much of the region, so much the better,” said Levy.

The US has been a key ally for Israel in this conflict, providing significant financial support for Israel’s military efforts. However, public opinion in the US is divided on the issue, with some critics calling for an end to the war. The impact of regional diplomatic pressure on the US government and its allies in the Gulf is also uncertain.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu has faced criticism from some Israelis who disagree with his approach to the conflict. “They, like their leaders, believe that if you only topple the Iranian regime, the Middle East will totally transform for the better,” said Bregman. However, others have rallied behind Netanyahu’s stance, with some politicians even characterizing Turkey as a threat similar to Iran.

The situation remains fluid, with many factors influencing the outcome of the conflict. The duration and impact of the war are uncertain, and it is unclear how long the US will continue to support Israel’s military efforts in the region.
