Italy wins historic first T20 World Cup title against Nepal

Italy Secures First World Cup Victory with Upset Win Over Nepal

In a surprise turn of events, Italy defeated Nepal by 10 wickets in their T20 World Cup debut match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India. The win marked Italy’s first-ever victory in the tournament and was also only the eighth 10-wicket victory in men’s T20 World Cup history.

Nepal, making its third appearance in the T20 World Cup, had been riding high after giving England a scare at the same venue on Sunday. However, Sri Lanka-born wrist spinner Crishan Kalugamage picked up 3-18 to help Nepal fall short of their target.

Italy’s victory was sealed by an unbeaten stand between brothers Anthony and Justin Mosca, who scored 124 runs off just 12.4 overs. The Mosca brothers hit nine sixes and eight boundaries, with Anthony scoring 62 not out off 32 balls and Justin 60 not out off 44 balls.

The win marked Italy’s first victory in only its second match at a global cricket tournament, joining the Netherlands as the only two non-British European teams to achieve this feat. The result also marked a significant milestone for Nepal, which had been struggling to find its footing in the tournament.

In other matches, Sri Lanka crushed Oman by 105 runs, with captain Dasun Shanaka breaking his own record for the fastest T20 half-century. India is set to face Namibia later in the day.
