Ivory Coasts Elye Wahi Denied Entry to Canada Ahead of Germany Match

Ivory Coast Forward Elye Wahi to Miss Canada Match Due to Travel Authorization Issue

The Ivorian Football Federation has announced that Ivory Coast forward Elye Wahi will not be able to travel to Toronto for this weekend’s World Cup match against Germany due to a lack of authorization. The decision was made on Thursday, following reports of an investigation into suspected sports corruption in France.

According to the French authorities, unusual betting patterns were detected around a yellow card received by Wahi in a Ligue 1 match last month while playing for Nice. A spokesperson for the Marseille prosecutor’s office confirmed that a 23-year-old Ligue 1 player was taken into custody on May 29 as part of an investigation into suspected organized fraud, sports corruption, handling stolen goods, and money laundering.

Wahi was not immediately available to comment on the matter. The Ivorian Football Federation stated that Wahi will remain in the US pending the team’s return. This decision affects Ivory Coast’s upcoming match against Germany in Toronto.
