Joe Kent Resigns as Trumps Counterterrorism Chief Amid Uncertain Circumstances

US Counterterrorism Director Joe Kent Resigns Over Iran War

Washington D.C. - US President Donald Trump’s decision to wage war on Iran has led to the resignation of top counterterrorism official, Joe Kent. On Tuesday, Kent published a copy of his resignation letter on social media platform X, addressing his correspondence to Trump.

Kent, 45, had served as the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, the US agency responsible for coordinating and analyzing terrorism intelligence, since July. He cited concerns about the ongoing war in Iran, stating that it posed no imminent threat to the nation.

According to Kent’s resignation letter, he supported Trump’s foreign policy agenda during his last three presidential campaigns, which included a pledge to keep the US out of “never-ending wars” in the Middle East. However, Kent argued that Trump had been misled about the threat posed by Iran.

Kent’s departure marks the highest-profile rebuke yet of the war effort from within the Trump administration. The resignation comes after Kent faced scrutiny over past connections to far-right activists and was a former soldier with the US Army Special Forces who completed 11 combat deployments.

Trump had endorsed Kent’s predecessor, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, in her previous congressional campaigns. However, Kent’s own campaign was unsuccessful, despite Trump’s endorsement.

Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence, had previously praised Kent’s confirmation and highlighted his experience as a combat veteran. However, she distanced herself from Kent’s resignation, emphasizing her support for Trump’s campaign in Iran.

Kent’s resignation is the latest development in the ongoing controversy surrounding the US war on Iran.
