King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Visit US Amid Tensions and Anniversary Celebrations
Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles III and Queen Camilla are set to embark on a four-day state visit to the United States, commencing on April 27. The trip coincides with the 250th anniversary of the US declaring independence from British rule.
The royal couple will arrive in Washington, DC, where they will engage in various activities, including a private tea at the White House and a tour of the newly expanded White House beehive. On April 28, they will participate in a full ceremonial programme, which includes a state arrival ceremony, an address to the US Congress, and meetings with President Trump and other officials.
The visit also marks the first time a British monarch has addressed a joint meeting of the US Congress since 1991. The royal couple is expected to attend events in New York and Virginia, including a ceremony at the September 11 memorial and a community “block party” in celebration of the US founding’s 250th anniversary.
The visit will take place despite heightened security concerns following a shooting incident in Washington, DC, on Saturday night. Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the trip will proceed as planned.
