New York Knicks Take 2-0 Lead in NBA Finals with Thrilling Win Over San Antonio Spurs
The New York Knicks secured a crucial 105-104 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. The win marked the Knicks’ 13th consecutive playoff game, the second-longest streak in postseason history.
The Spurs, led by Victor Wembanyama’s 29 points, staged a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback, erasing a 14-point deficit with a 14-0 scoring run. However, the Spurs ultimately fell short due to a crucial late turnover and missed game-winning attempt.
Jalen Brunson drilled the go-ahead free throw to seal the win for the Knicks. The team will now look to close out their first title since 1973 in front of home fans at Madison Square Garden on Monday, with United States President Donald Trump scheduled to attend.
The Spurs’ loss marked a rare instance where a team has trailed 2-0 in the Finals and come back to win the championship. The only other teams to achieve this feat are Michael Jordan’s 1993 Chicago Bulls and the 1995 Houston Rockets.
Karl-Anthony Towns led the Knicks with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Mikal Bridges scored 20 points. For the Spurs, De’Aaron Fox scored 20 points, and Wembanyama added nine rebounds, four blocked shots, and two steals.
The game was marked by a back-and-forth battle between the two teams, with both sides making crucial plays throughout. The Knicks’ defense, led by Towns, played a key role in containing Wembanyama, who struggled to find his rhythm at times.
“We could have folded a few times, but our guys just kept fighting,” said Knicks coach Mike Brown. “No matter what run they went on, no matter what time of the game, our guys just kept uplifting one another.”
