Labour Party faces significant electoral losses amid Reforms early success

Reform UK Sees Early Gains in Local Elections Across UK

Early results from local elections across England have shown that Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage, has made significant gains, particularly in Labour heartlands. The governing Labour Party is facing heavy defeats, with Reform UK gaining 382 seats as of 9am local time.

Labour’s performance has been disappointing, with the party losing over 258 seats. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has taken responsibility for the outcome, stating that he will not step down despite the tough results. In a speech in West London, Starmer acknowledged the losses and expressed his commitment to delivering change.

Reform UK has made early gains in Greater Manchester and the Liverpool City Region, with notable wins in Wigan and Leigh, where they secured 24 of 25 seats. The party also gained its first council seat of the campaign in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, previously held by the Conservatives.

The Conservative Party is also seeing mixed results, making gains in London but losing 139 seats. The Greens have struggled to translate their hype into votes, gaining only 23 seats so far. Six mayoral elections will take place in Greater London, as well as nearby Watford, with voters deciding all 129 seats in the Scottish Parliament.

In Wales, 96 seats will be decided by proportional representation, with the party with the biggest share leading the government. The outcome of these local elections is seen as a key test of Prime Minister Starmer’s leadership and Reform UK’s popularity.
