Doha Forum Highlights Global Impact of Israel’s Actions in Gaza
The 17th Al Jazeera Forum in Doha brought together senior political figures and officials to discuss the repercussions of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. The forum focused on the global implications of the conflict, with Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi emphasizing the need for international cooperation.
Araghchi described the situation in Gaza as a “deliberate destruction of civilian life on a massive scale” and characterized it as genocide. He also stated that the violence has exposed the inability of global powers to prevent attacks on civilians, leading to concerns about impunity for such actions.
The Iranian diplomat warned that Israel’s policies are part of a broader regional strategy aimed at weakening neighboring states and enforcing permanent inequality. He called for comprehensive and targeted sanctions against Israel, including an immediate arms embargo, as well as suspension of military and intelligence cooperation.
Araghchi also highlighted the importance of addressing the Palestinian issue, stating that it is a strategic and moral compass for the region. He emphasized that regional stability depends on ending occupation and building a system grounded in sovereignty and equality.
Other officials at the forum expressed concerns about the impact of Israel’s actions on global politics and regional power balances. Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer bin Mohammed Al Thani, chairman of the board of the Al Jazeera Media Network, warned that the Israeli occupation is attempting to permanently alter realities on the ground.
The forum also touched on indirect talks between Iran and the United States, with Araghchi confirming that a second round of negotiations has been agreed upon. However, no date has been set for the talks yet.
The event highlighted the far-reaching consequences of Israel’s actions in Gaza, both within the region and globally. The international community is being urged to take action to address the situation and promote regional stability.
