Sabastian Sawe of Kenya completed the 42.195km course in 1:59:30, setting a new world record for men’s marathon. The 31-year-old athlete achieved this feat on Sunday at the London Marathon.

Sawe broke Kelvin Kiptum’s previous world record by 65 seconds, with a time of 2:00:35 being surpassed. Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia finished second in 1:59:41, while Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda took bronze in 2:02:28.

In the women’s division, Tigst Assefa of Ethiopia defended her title, completing the course in 2:15:41 and retaining her world record. Hellen Obiri of Kenya finished second in a personal best time of 2:15:53, with Joyciline Jepkosgei coming in third.

The London Marathon saw several notable performances, including Sawe’s historic achievement. The athlete attributed his success to thorough preparation for the event, which was his second appearance at the marathon.
