Manchester United appoints Michael Fletcher as interim manager

Manchester United Announces Managerial Change

Manchester United has announced that Ruben Amorim has left his position as head coach of the club, effective immediately. The decision was made after a 14-month tenure marked by significant changes and challenges.

According to the club’s statement, Darren Fletcher will serve as interim manager for the team’s next game against Burnley on Wednesday. The former United player and academy coach will oversee the team until further notice.

The statement from Manchester United’s leadership cited the need for change in order to achieve the highest possible Premier League finish. The club expressed gratitude to Amorim for his contributions during his time at the helm, wishing him well in his future endeavors.

Amorim joined Manchester United in November 2024 and led the team to 24 wins in 63 games. He also guided the team to a UEFA Europa League final appearance in May. The Portuguese manager’s last game in charge was on Sunday against Leeds United, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Following the match, Amorim held a press conference where he expressed his frustration with certain aspects of the club’s operations. He also made comments about the scouting department and sporting director, which sparked controversy among fans and media representatives.

The change in managerial leadership marks a significant shift for Manchester United, a 20-time English champion who has not won the Premier League since 2013 under Alex Ferguson’s tenure.
