Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey Calls for Transparency in Investigation into ICE Agent’s Killing of City Resident

Mayor Jacob Frey of Minneapolis has urged the Trump administration to follow the facts and conduct an impartial investigation into the killing of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent. The appeal came after an independent state investigative body was cut out of a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) probe into the shooting.

On Friday, Frey stated that it is essential to “embrace the truth” and ensure transparency throughout the investigation. He expressed concern that the Trump administration had already reached a conclusion about the facts of the case before any investigation was completed. Without the involvement of independent local investigators, Frey warned that any findings by the FBI may be seen as tainted.

The incident occurred in a residential Minneapolis neighborhood on Wednesday, where Good was parked in her vehicle when ICE agents approached her. Video evidence shows conflicting orders being given to Good, which some argue may have contributed to the agent’s decision to open fire. The agent shot and killed Good, who was dropping off her youngest child at school.

The mayor also highlighted the involvement of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), which had initially been invited to participate in the probe before being cut out.
