Morocco says AFCON case is closed after Senegals appeal denied

Morocco Claims AFCON Victory After Controversial Decision

The Confederation of African Football has awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory over Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations final, following several Senegalese players’ protest against the awarding of a penalty. The decision came after Senegal lost 1-0 to Morocco in the January final.

Morocco’s new coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, has stated that his team is focused on the future and not dwelling on the controversy surrounding the decision. “The answer from us about whether the decision was fair would be what our federation said, and that’s all,” he told reporters.

Despite Senegal’s claims of injustice, Morocco fans are confident in their team’s abilities. “If someone says there are regulations, you have to follow them,” said Yassine el-Aouak, a Moroccan supporter who attended the friendly match against Ecuador on Friday. The team drew 1-1 against Ecuador, marking their first match since the final.

Morocco’s players and coaches have expressed confidence in their abilities, citing their recent success as evidence of their strength. “We are a top-level team – we don’t have weaknesses,” said Ouahbi. “You only have strengths, and then any qualities we’re missing, areas where we’re not performing, we have to make up for collectively.”

Morocco will face Brazil in their first game at the 2026 World Cup on June 13, one of the most anticipated match-ups of the group phase. The team’s lawyers may need to defend their status as African champions against Senegal’s case, but Ouahbi and his players are focused on the future and the opportunity to win another trophy.

The Moroccan Federation has not commented further on the controversy surrounding the AFCON final decision.
