Uganda’s President Museveni Wins Seventh Term in Election
President Yoweri Museveni has been declared the winner of Uganda’s presidential election, securing nearly 72% of the vote to secure a seventh term in office. The official results, as reported by the electoral commission, confirm Museveni’s victory.
Museveni’s opponent, Bobi Wine, has disputed the results, claiming they are “fake”. In response, Wine has called for non-violent street protests to express his concerns about the election outcome.
The election took place on January 14, with Museveni and Wine competing for the presidency. The electoral commission announced the official results earlier today, confirming Museveni’s victory.
Museveni will now extend his rule over Uganda, which he has held since 1986. This marks his seventh term in office, following previous elections in 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011, and 2016.
The electoral commission has stated that the results are final and binding, but Wine’s claims of a “fake” election have raised concerns among opposition supporters. The outcome of the election is expected to be closely watched by international observers and human rights groups.
As the results are confirmed, Museveni will take office for another five-year term, marking the beginning of his seventh consecutive term as President of Uganda.
