Perus Sanchez Visits Jailed Ex-President Amid Voting Count

Peruvian Presidential Candidate Meets Jailed Ex-President Amidst Election Counting

Peru’s presidential candidate, Roberto Sanchez, has made a visit to jailed former president Pedro Castillo as officials continue to count ballots from the ongoing runoff election against conservative rival Keiko Fujimori.

According to reports, Sanchez met with Castillo at the prison where he is currently being held. The meeting took place on the same day that officials began counting votes from the recent election.

The Peruvian presidential election has been closely contested between Sanchez and Fujimori, who are running in a runoff election after neither candidate secured more than 50% of the vote in the initial round. As the results continue to be tallied, both candidates have been making efforts to secure support among voters.

Sanchez’s visit to Castillo was seen as an attempt to garner support from the former president and his supporters. Castillo has been a vocal critic of Fujimori’s policies and has been a key figure in the opposition movement against her candidacy.

The meeting between Sanchez and Castillo took place at a time when officials were still counting ballots from the election. The outcome of the runoff election is expected to be announced soon, with both candidates vying for the presidency of Peru.
