Nepali Sherpa Guide Found Alive After Six-Day Search on Mount Everest

A Nepali Sherpa guide who went missing on Mount Everest six days ago has been found alive, according to Pemba Sherpa of 8K Expeditions. Dawa Sherpa, 52, was discovered by a clearing crew at the Khumbu Icefall on Thursday morning while crawling down snowy slopes.

Sherpa was carried down to safety and provided with food and water before being flown to HAMS Hospital in Kathmandu. His wife and daughter, who had begun funeral rituals for him, were waiting at the hospital.

According to Damu Sherpa, Dawa’s wife, they first heard about his possible survival through local news and a person who contacted them with the information. The family was initially unsure of the authenticity of the report, but after receiving photos, they confirmed that it was indeed their father.

The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee team spotted Sherpa while laying ladders and ropes on the route at the start of each climbing season. Last month, over 1,000 climbers and guides scaled Everest during the busiest climbing season ever, resulting in at least five fatalities this season.

Dawa Sherpa was last seen around May 29 descending the mountain but did not reach base camp. His client, a Polish climber, successfully reached the base camp. The rescue team faced delays in organizing a search party and ultimately failed to locate Sherpa initially.
