New Zealand and Pakistan to face off in T20 World Cup Super Eights

New Zealand and Pakistan Set for High-Stakes Matchup in Super Eights Stage of T20 World Cup

The 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is set to feature a crucial matchup between New Zealand and Pakistan on Saturday, February 21, at 7pm (13:30 GMT) at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Both teams are considered dark horses for the title, having demonstrated the capability to take down top-ranked teams.

Pakistan secured their last Super Eights berth by defeating Namibia by a significant margin of 102 runs, with Shadab Khan scoring 36 off 22 balls and taking 3-19 in the match. The team’s captain, Shadab, expressed confidence that they can go on to win the World Cup, stating that they are “on the right track” and following a process.

Pakistan will face England and co-hosts Sri Lanka after their matchup against New Zealand. Shadab warned that the Super Eights stage will be challenging due to the presence of eight strong teams, with all matches expected to be high-pressure games.

New Zealand capped their group stage with an eight-wicket win against Canada, but suffered a scare when Canadian opener Yuvraj Samra scored 110 off 65 balls. The team’s captain, Mitchell Santner, sat out the match due to illness, and his availability for the matchup against Pakistan could be crucial.

Pakistan rode on an undefeated maiden T20 international century by opener Sahibzada Farhan to post 199-3 in their win against Namibia. Spinners Usman Tariq and Shadab Khan then shared seven wickets to rout Namibia in 17.3 overs, marking a significant improvement from their previous matches.

The matchup between New Zealand and Pakistan is expected to be an intense and closely watched game, with both teams looking to make a statement in the Super Eights stage of the tournament.
