Newcastle Owners Desire for Success Remains Unchanged Despite Recent Developments

Newcastle United’s Saudi Arabian owners, led by Public Investment Fund (PIF), have announced plans to cut funding for LIV Golf at the end of the 2026 season. The sovereign wealth fund, chaired by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has invested over $5 billion in LIV Golf since its launch in 2022.

According to Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe, the owners and representatives of PIF met this week, describing the discussions as “constructive” and “good”. Howe stated that he believes the long-term planning being undertaken by PIF will have a positive impact on the club, regardless of any short-term changes.

Newcastle United has experienced mixed results since joining Saudi ownership in 2021. The team has qualified for the Champions League twice and won the League Cup last season. However, they are currently struggling in the Premier League standings, sitting 14th after four consecutive defeats.

When asked about his future at the club, Howe emphasized his commitment to Newcastle United’s success. He stated that a football club must adapt to changing circumstances and that the team’s performance will ultimately determine its direction.

In a statement, PIF announced that it would continue to deploy capital internationally in line with its investment strategy, including investments in various sports as a priority sector. The decision to cut funding for LIV Golf is expected to have significant implications for the breakaway circuit.
