Nigeria vs Tunisia: AFCON 2025 – team news, start time and lineups

Nigeria and Tunisia to Face Off in Crucial AFCON Matchup

A high-stakes matchup is set for Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match between Nigeria and Tunisia at the Fez Stadium in Morocco. The outcome of this game could significantly impact the group standings, with both teams vying for a top spot.

Nigeria, the three-time AFCON winners, will look to bounce back from their opening match performance, where they failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Star striker Victor Osimhen’s form has been inconsistent, and the team will need him to step up if they hope to overcome Tunisia.

Tunisia, meanwhile, arrives with momentum after securing qualification for next year’s FIFA World Cup and a convincing 3-1 win over Uganda in their opening match. The team is led by star attacking player Elias Achouri, who scored twice against Uganda.

The two teams have a history of competition, having met 21 times in total, including friendly matches. Tunisia has won seven of those meetings, while Nigeria has secured six victories. Their most recent encounter was at the AFCON’s last-16 stage in January 2022, where Tunisia emerged victorious with a 1-0 win.

The top two teams from each group, along with the best four third-placed teams, will advance to the round of 16. A win for either team on Saturday could set up a tense finale in Group C, regardless of the outcome of their respective matches.

The match is scheduled to take place at 9pm GMT on December 27 and can be followed by Al Jazeera Sport’s build-up coverage starting at 17:00 GMT.
