Two men killed in Nigeria crash, British boxer Anthony Joshua injured
A fatal car accident occurred in southwestern Nigeria’s Ogun State on Monday, resulting in the deaths of two men and injuring a British boxer. The incident involved a Lexus SUV carrying Anthony Joshua, 46-year-old Latif Ayodele, and 46-year-old Sina Ghami, who were traveling on a highway linking Lagos and Ibadan.
According to police, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver of the vehicle, has been charged with reckless and dangerous driving. He was granted bail in the sum of 5 million naira ($3,480) and is currently being held in custody pending his release on bail conditions.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was traveling at an excessive speed and had burst a tire before the crash. The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency reported that the vehicle’s speed exceeded safe limits.
Anthony Joshua, who sustained minor injuries, visited the funeral home where the bodies of his friends were being prepared for repatriation after leaving the hospital on Wednesday. A government source confirmed that the remains of the victims may have been repatriated to the United Kingdom.
