North Koreas Kim Unveils 50 Rocket Launchers Ahead of Congress

North Korean Leader Unveils Nuclear-Capable Rocket Launchers Ahead of Congress

Pyongyang, North Korea - State media reported that dozens of nuclear-capable rocket launchers were presented by North Korean munitions workers ahead of a key congress of the governing Workers’ Party. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un hailing the 600mm-calibre rocket launchers as “wonderful” and “attractive”.

According to reports from the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), 50 such launchers were displayed at the House of Culture in Pyongyang, where the congress will be held. The event is expected to lay out North Korea’s foreign policy, war planning, and nuclear ambitions for the next five years.

During the ceremony, Kim described the launchers as “the world’s most advantageous weapon for concentrated super-powerful attack”. He stated that the weapons incorporate “AI technology and compound guidance systems” and would deter unnamed enemies. The launch system is reportedly capable of firing rockets with an estimated range of 400 kilometres (250 miles), covering all of South Korea.

The congress, which is widely viewed as North Korea’s most important political event, will declare the next phase of the self-reliant defence initiative and accelerate the “project of constantly renewing our military capabilities”. The event has sparked concerns among South Korean officials, who are closely watching North Korea’s activities to develop weapons.

In a separate report, Kim Yo Jong, the leader’s sister, acknowledged a South Korean minister’s apology regarding alleged civilian drone incursions. However, she stated that Pyongyang is bolstering border security against the “enemy”. The incidents occurred in September of last year and again in January, according to North Korea.
