Only one student remains unaccounted for after Iranian school bombing

Iran Authorities Close Makan Nasiri’s Case After Seven Weeks of Search

The Iranian authorities have informed the parents of seven-year-old Makan Nasiri that his case has been closed, nearly seven weeks after the start of the search for his remains. The boy was among 156 people killed in a bombing at the Shajareh Tayyebeh elementary school in Minab, Hormozgan province, on February 28.

The attack occurred during the first day of the week in Iran and resulted in significant damage to the school. Forensic experts identified the bodies of most victims, but were unable to locate Makan’s remains despite extensive DNA testing. The Legal Medicine Organisation reported that about 40 percent of all bodies recovered since the start of the war could not be immediately identified due to extensive damage.

Makan’s parents, Cyrus and Asieh Rahinejad, have been searching for their son since the attack. They visited the school on the day it was hit and later searched the area extensively, but found no signs of Makan. On the 38th day of the search, Makan’s uncle discovered a single shoe belonging to him, which was identified by the family.

The Iranian authorities have now informed the parents that their son’s case has been closed without finding any remains. The cause of the attack is attributed to US Tomahawk missiles, although Washington did not claim responsibility for the incident.
