Trump Nominates Ex-State Trooper Lance Schroyer for ICE Director Position

US President Donald Trump Nominates Former Oklahoma Trooper as Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement

President Trump has nominated Lance Schroyer, a former Oklahoma state trooper, to serve as the director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Schroyer will replace acting ICE Director David Venturella.

Schroyer has 29 years of law enforcement experience and served in the US Marine Corps. He was chosen by President Trump for his experience in large-scale operations and his work with the 287g program, an immigration enforcement partnership initiative.

The nomination comes as Congress is set to consider Schroyer’s qualifications for the position. If confirmed, he will oversee ICE’s efforts to enforce immigration laws, including deporting individuals who have committed crimes.

ICE has faced scrutiny in recent months over its tactics and treatment of detainees. In January, an ICE enforcement activity in Minnesota resulted in the shooting death of a protester. Other incidents have sparked nationwide outcry, leading some to call for reforms to ICE operations.

The nomination comes as the agency faces criticism over its handling of detainees. At least 19 people have died in ICE custody this year. The high commissioner for human rights at the United Nations has called for authorities to be held accountable for such deaths.

Schroyer’s nomination will be considered by Congress, which may scrutinize his experience and qualifications for the position. If confirmed, he will take over as director of ICE.
