Norwegian Diplomat Terje Rod-Larsen Embroiled in Corruption Scandal
Documents released by the US Justice Department have revealed that Norwegian diplomat Terje Rod-Larsen facilitated visas for women allegedly trafficked by financier Jeffrey Epstein. The documents also show that Rod-Larsen was listed as a beneficiary of Epstein’s will, worth $10 million.
Rod-Larsen, who played a key role in the 1993 Oslo Accords, is facing allegations of corruption and blackmail. He served as president of the International Peace Institute think tank in New York at the time. The documents detail how Rod-Larsen wrote official letters of recommendation to secure visas for young Russian women associated with Epstein, claiming they possessed “extraordinary abilities” suitable for research roles.
Epstein loaned Rod-Larsen $130,000 in 2013, and his will included a clause bequeathing $5 million each to Rod-Larsen’s two children, totaling $10 million. The scandal has raised questions about the peace process in the Middle East, with Palestinian leaders expressing concerns that the agreements were brokered by diplomats vulnerable to elite blackmail.
The Norwegian government has not commented on the allegations against Rod-Larsen. His wife, Mona Juul, resigned as Norway’s ambassador to Jordan and Iraq earlier this month, and her security clearance was revoked. The scandal has sparked a storm of controversy in the diplomatic community.
Investigations by Norwegian media outlets have uncovered more details about Epstein’s interactions with global elites, including former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak. The documents also reveal Epstein’s funding of Israeli groups and his ties to members of Israel’s overseas intelligence services, the Mossad.
