US Drugmaker Files Emergency Appeal to Restore Access to Abortion Pill
A pharmaceutical company has submitted an emergency appeal to the US Supreme Court in an effort to restore access to abortion pills. The pill, known as mifepristone, is used to terminate pregnancies.
The company’s request comes after a lower court ruling blocked online access by mail to the medication. This decision was made in response to concerns over the safety and efficacy of telehealth distribution of the pill.
The Supreme Court has been asked to pause its ruling, pending further review. If granted, this would allow for temporary reinstatement of access to the abortion pill until a final decision is reached.
The pharmaceutical company’s appeal seeks to overturn the lower court’s decision, arguing that it was based on incorrect assumptions about the safety and efficacy of telehealth distribution.
The Supreme Court will consider the company’s request and make a determination on whether to grant an emergency stay.
