Poll finds majority of Americans oppose military action against Iran

US Lawmakers React to First US Soldier Deaths in Iran Conflict

A recent poll conducted by Reuters Ipsos found that 43% of respondents disapproved of the US-Israeli strikes against Iran, while 29% were unsure. The poll was conducted before President Donald Trump announced that three US military personnel had been killed in the conflict.

Trump stated on Sunday that he would continue the “righteous mission” until all objectives are achieved, and warned that there may be more casualties ahead. He also framed Iran as an existential threat to the US, claiming that its leaders have waged war against civilization itself.

The poll suggested that public opinion is divided along party lines, with 55% of Republicans approving of the strikes, while 74% of Democrats disapproved. Additionally, 42% of Republicans said they would be less likely to support the operation if it led to US troops being killed or injured in the Middle East.

Lawmakers have been putting pressure on Trump following the first US soldier deaths. Republican lawmakers have largely coalesced around Trump’s message on Iran, despite its contradiction to his campaign promises. The conflict has also sparked concerns about gas and oil prices, with 45% of respondents saying they would be less likely to support the campaign against Iran if prices increased in the US.

The conflict has resulted in significant loss of life, with at least 201 people killed in Iran, nine in Israel, two in Iraq, three in the United Arab Emirates, and one in Kuwait. The US military operation has also disrupted trade routes, with several companies suspending shipments in the area.
