Real Madrid’s Season Hit by Latest Turmoil as Valverde Injured in Dressing Room Clash
A dressing room altercation between Real Madrid players Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni has resulted in the Uruguayan midfielder being taken to hospital with a cut head. The incident occurred at the club’s training ground on the eve of El Clasico against Barcelona.
Valverde, who is also the team captain, sustained a head injury and will be sidelined for up to two weeks, according to a statement from the club. He was discharged from the hospital after undergoing tests by Real Madrid’s medical team.
The incident follows an earlier altercation between the pair, which prompted an emergency meeting attended by senior club officials. The aim of the meeting was to address the escalating tensions within the squad.
Real Madrid has announced that disciplinary proceedings have been opened against both Valverde and Tchouameni. The club will announce the outcomes of the cases in due course once internal procedures are completed.
Valverde, a key midfielder for Uruguay, is set to miss his team’s first World Cup match against Saudi Arabia on June 15. He later posted a statement on social media apologizing to the club and its supporters, but denied that things got out of hand with a teammate.
The incident has added to the turmoil that has been affecting Real Madrid’s season. The team is currently trailing La Liga leaders Barcelona by 11 points with four matches remaining. Manager Alvaro Arbeloa has struggled to prevent the team from sliding towards a second successive year without a trophy.
In other news, over 33 million signatures have joined a petition demanding that the club sell its French international Kylian Mbappe. The forward is recovering from injury and has been criticized for leaving Spain for an apparent vacation in Italy to continue his rehabilitation.
