Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano to Face Off in Highly Anticipated MMA Bout
Mixed martial artists Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano have announced their return to competition, with a highly publicized bout scheduled for May 16 at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. The event will be promoted by Most Valuable Promotions, founded by Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian.
Rousey, 39, has not competed since 2016, while Carano’s eight-fight MMA career ended in 2009. The two fighters will face off at a weight class of 145lb (66kg) for five five-minute rounds.
The bout marks the first time Rousey and Carano have faced each other in competition. Both fighters are widely regarded as trailblazers in the sport, with Rousey credited with helping to popularize women’s MMA through her successful UFC career. Carano was a key figure in bringing MMA into mainstream broadcast television.
Rousey, a two-time Olympic medalist and former UFC bantamweight champion, has announced that she will be facing off against Carano for the first time. “I’ve been waiting so long to announce this,” Rousey said. “This is for all MMA fans past, present and future.”
Carano, 43, has also made a statement about her upcoming bout, saying “Ronda came to me and said there is only one person she would make a comeback for, and it has been her dream to make this fight happen between us.” The two fighters are expected to face off in a highly anticipated super fight.
The event will be broadcast on Netflix.
