Manchester United Announces Departure of Manager Ruben Amorim
Manchester United has announced that manager Ruben Amorim will be leaving the club with immediate effect. Amorim, 40, was in charge for 14 months and had a record of 24 wins, 18 draws, and 21 losses during his tenure.
The departure comes after a tumultuous news conference where Amorim expressed frustration with the club’s scouting department and media. He stated that he would continue to perform his duties until another manager was appointed.
Amorim’s final game as Manchester United manager was a 1-1 draw against Leeds United on January 4, 2026. The team is currently in sixth place in the Premier League with 31 points from 20 matches.
Former player and academy head coach Darren Fletcher has been named as the interim manager with immediate effect. The club’s leadership stated that they have made the decision to make a change due to the need for a higher possible Premier League finish.
Amorim’s departure marks an end to his time at Manchester United, which began in 2025. The club wishes him well for the future and thanks him for his contribution during his time with the team.
