Russian Attacks on Ukrainian City Kill at Least Four People

Four people have been killed in Kyiv and the surrounding region as a result of a series of attacks by Russia. The Ukrainian authorities report that two individuals died in the capital city, while another two were killed in the Kyiv region. Additionally, 56 people were wounded in Kyiv, and nine more were injured in the surrounding area.

According to reports from Ukraine’s air force, the attack began at approximately 1am on Sunday, with warnings issued by the Ukrainian air force that Russia might launch a hypersonic ballistic missile. The Russian defence ministry confirmed that it had launched an Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile, as well as other types of missiles and drones.

The attack included over 600 drones and 90 air-, sea- and ground-launched missiles. Ukrainian air defences destroyed or jammed many of the incoming projectiles, but some managed to reach their targets. Damage was reported at 40 locations across Kyiv, including residential buildings, offices, shops, and a metro station.

The US embassy in Ukraine had issued warnings about an attack on the capital city earlier in the week, following reports of deadly strikes in eastern Ukraine. Russia has confirmed that it will “punish” those responsible for these attacks.
