Seven killed in Ukrainian drone strike on Russian-held territory

A drone strike hit a bus traveling between Moscow and Simferopol in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, resulting in at least seven fatalities and 11 injuries. Denis Pushilin, the head of the region, reported on Telegram that the incident occurred on Wednesday.

According to Tass, Russia’s state news agency, an investigation has been launched under the category of “terrorist attack”. The Investigative Committee is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Separately, Ukrainian drones targeted infrastructure in several districts of St. Petersburg, causing damage and injuring people. Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted the “Russian Davos” economic forum in the city on Wednesday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that important facilities on Russian territory were hit overnight, including the Petersburg Oil Terminal and an enterprise involved in producing Russian weapons. The Ministry of Defence reported that 354 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed over multiple regions.

In response to recent attacks on Kyiv, Dnipro, and other Ukrainian cities, Ukraine’s air force claimed that Moscow launched 656 drones throughout Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. Russia stated its barrage was in retaliation for a deadly attack on a dormitory in the Luhansk region two weeks ago.

Governor Alexander Drozdenko reported that 50 drones were shot down over St. Petersburg overnight, while Governor Yevgeny Pervyshov stated that outbuildings at an industrial facility and an apartment building were damaged in Michurinsk.
