Spanish Police Raid Socialist Party Headquarters in Corruption Investigation

Spanish Police Conduct Search at Socialist Party Headquarters

Police officers entered the headquarters of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) in Madrid as part of an ongoing investigation into possible financial wrongdoing. According to reports, the search was carried out under judicial orders and is related to a National Court inquiry into accusations of corruption against former party members and individuals.

The Civil Guard stated that the police were searching for material relevant to the inquiry, led by National Court judge Santiago Pedraz, which focuses on the alleged wrongdoing of PSOE member Leire Diez. The investigation began in 2025 after audio recordings surfaced of her involvement in attempts to discredit a member of the Civil Guard’s anticorruption unit.

The search is limited to the inquiry and does not involve an “entry and search” without prior notice. The PSOE has confirmed that it is cooperating with the courts and will provide any requested information. Former Socialist Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero was placed under formal investigation last week in connection with a government airline bailout, while his brother and wife are also being investigated over allegations of influence peddling.

The head of the main opposition conservative People’s Party (PP), Alberto Nunez Feijoo, has made public comments criticizing the government’s handling of corruption cases. The prime minister, Pedro Sanchez, is currently visiting the Vatican and will hold a news conference later in the day.
