Syrian Delegation Meets with Israeli Counterparts in Paris
A delegation from Syria, led by Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and General Intelligence Directorate Chief Hussein al-Salameh, is participating in a new round of negotiations with their Israeli counterparts in Paris. The talks are being coordinated and mediated by the United States.
According to a government source, the resumption of these negotiations indicates Syria’s continued commitment to restoring its national rights. Israel has maintained control over Syrian territory beyond the Golan Heights since the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad, and has staged numerous incursions and bombardments in southern Syria.
The talks are primarily focused on reactivating the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. The source stated that the agreement aims to ensure the withdrawal of Israeli forces to their positions prior to December 8, 2014, within the framework of an equitable security agreement. This agreement prioritizes full Syrian sovereignty and guarantees the prevention of any form of interference in internal affairs.
The details of the negotiations are still being discussed, but the source confirmed that the talks will focus on reactivating the agreement and ensuring a stable security arrangement for Syria.
