Australian Teenager Sets Under-20 World Record in 200m Sprint
Gout Gout, an 18-year-old Australian sprinter, has broken the world Under-20 record in the 200 meters with a time of 19.67 seconds at the Australian Athletics Championships in Sydney. This achievement marks the first time he has gone below 20 seconds in legal conditions.
Gout’s performance also surpasses that of Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt at the same age, who ran 19.93 seconds in 2004. Fellow Australian Aidan Murphy also achieved a sub-20 second time with 19.88 seconds, both times recorded with a tailwind of +1.7 meters per second.
Gout’s record-breaking feat comes after he defended his 200m title and improved on his own national record of 20.02 set last year. He has been making headlines for his rapid rise in the sprinting world, drawing comparisons to Bolt as one of the most exciting young talents in the sport.
In an interview, Gout expressed his excitement about achieving a legal record time, saying “There’s a big weight off my shoulders knowing I ran it legally, and I have the speed and my body to run times like that.” He also stated that he is ready for more and has been training hard.
