Tiger Woods Pleads Not Guilty in DUI Case
Golfer Tiger Woods entered a written plea of not guilty in his driving under the influence case in Florida on Tuesday. According to court records, Woods planned to waive his appearance during an arraignment hearing scheduled for next month.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office released an arrest report detailing the events surrounding the crash that occurred last week. The report stated that Woods showed signs of impairment at the scene and had opioid pills in his pocket. Deputies observed that Woods’s eyes were bloodshot, his pupils were dilated, and he was sweating during their interaction.
Woods claimed to have taken prescription medication earlier in the morning, citing a need for pain relief due to past injuries. The report noted that Woods had undergone seven back surgeries and more than 20 leg operations, which may have contributed to his condition.
During the investigation, deputies conducted a field sobriety test, during which Woods limped and had difficulty keeping his head straight. He also hiccuped and moved his head excessively during one of the tests.
Woods is charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test. The golfer was arrested and released on bail eight hours later. A court date has been scheduled for April 23.
Online court records do not list a lawyer for Woods, who is also involved in various other activities, including his role as chairman of the PGA Tour’s competition model committee.
